Scott Morris/Biography
Scott Morris gave his New York recital debut at Carnegie Hall in 1998. He has studied at Yale University, the USC Thornton School of Music, the Aspen Music Festival, Musician’s Institute (GIT) and Claremont Graduate University from which he holds the degree of Doctorate of Musical Arts.
He has appeared as a soloist throughout North America, Europe and Asia. In 2005 he gave his Chinese debuts in both Beijing and Shanghai to great critical review. Recent festival appearances have been made at the St. Joseph Guitar Festival, Boston Guitar Fest, the Iserlohn International Guitar Symposium in Germany, Beijing Guitar Festival in China, La Guitarra, and the Dominguez Hills Guitar Festival.
Dr. Morris is equally respected for his work on the concert stage, in the classroom and the recording studio. He has recorded three CDs for Eroica Classical Recordings (Danza, Invocation, and Hollywood Guitar Duo). On Danza, Scott worked with longtime Neil Young producer Niko Bolas. 20th Century Guitar Magazine called Danza, a “classical guitar masterpiece”. Recently, he signed to record for Centaur Records, and will release an all-Paganini cd this spring. Scott also scored and performed the music for the Indie film, The Discarded in 2007. His new guitar trio with Jeff Young (formerly of Megadeth) and Steven Thachuk will make its New York City debut in June 2009 and its European debut at the Bath Festival in the United Kingdom this August.
He has written articles for Mel Bay’s Guitar Sessions Magazine, Soundboard, Guitar Noise, and numerous others. Currently, he is Coordinator of Guitar Studies at California State University, Dominguez Hills and served as the Convention Director for the 2007 Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition in Los Angeles, California. He recently accepted an Artist in Residence position at the Beijing Central Conservatory in China.
