Rent Assistance Fund

The Basic Needs Program Rent Assistance Fund is made possible by CARES funding to support those who were affected by COVID-19 experiencing financial hardships. This funding provides limited financial assistance to students who are unable to meet immediate, essential expenses because of temporary hardship related to an emergency situation such as COVID-19. Average award amounts range from $1,000-$3,500 per student per year. All funding used to support students must be reported to financial aid. The type and amount of financial assistance received can impact student financial aid for subsequent semesters.

Types of Covered Expenses

A range of incidents may cause financial hardships. Type expenses that may be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • Assistance with rent or dorm deposit due to emergency situation.
    • This may include rent deposit, first and last month’s rent. This will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

Eligibility requirements

  • Applicants must be a currently enrolled student at California State University, Dominguez Hills and have a temporary financial hardship resulting from an emergency situation.
  • Other possible resources have been considered and are not available or insufficient.
  • Be able to provide sufficient documentation of financial hardship.
  • Applicant must be employed (part or full-time).

Application Procedure

Applications are no longer being accepted.  

If approved, you will be notified of the fund amount and information will be sent to you regarding how the funds will be disbursed to you.

Staff Discretion

Decisions regarding distribution of monies from the Basic Needs Rental Assistance Fund will be made on a case-by-case basis and will be made by Basic Needs staff and Advisory Committee.
