Dear CSUDH Community,
California State University, Dominguez Hills has established a smoke- and tobacco-free environment to promote the health, well-being, and safety of our employees, students, and visitors.
As of September 1, 2017 smoking and the use of tobacco are prohibited in all areas of campus, including parking lots and structures, as wells as in leased spaces, including space within buildings shared with other agencies, as well as on-campus residences. On that date, the prior campus smoking policy contained in PM 04-02 was superseded by CSU Executive Order 1108. (http://www.calstate.edu/eo/EO-1108.html)
EO 1108 prohibits the use of cigarettes, cigars, pipes (including hookahs), electronic smoking devices such as vape pens, and smokeless tobacco products and nicotine delivery systems, including but not limited to chewing tobacco, snuff, and snus. "Tobacco Product" does not include any cessation product approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for use in treating nicotine or tobacco dependence. "Smoking is Prohibited" signs have been posted at designated locations all over campus.
It may be difficult for people who smoke or use tobacco to adjust to the smoke and tobacco-free environment and this concern is appreciated. The following smoking and tobacco cessation resources and services are available to everyone on campus who may want to quit and need assistance in doing so.
The success of this policy depends upon the thoughtfulness, consideration, and cooperation of every member of the University community.
For additional information, contact the EO 1108 Smoke and Tobacco Free Committee Chair, Dr. William Franklin, at (310) 243-3784.
