Scholarships

The College of Business Administration and Public Policy awarded approximately $17,200 to CBAPP students for the 2022-2023 academic year. CBAPP scholarship applications are usually made available in the spring semester for award distribution in the next academic year. These scholarships are only available to students with declared majors in the College of Business Administration and Public Policy who meet the eligibility criteria.

Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year are open and will close on 4/16/23.

Applications for the 2022-2023 academic year are closed.

Application Instructions

Complete the instructions below to apply for the CBAPP Scholarships on MyCSUDH. Students should prepare a personal statement prior to starting the application, then copy and paste the statement into the online application. Students should also download their unofficial transcripts for free in MyCSUDH > Student Center > Academic Requirements and then upload them to the application. 

Personal Statement:

Please provide a brief personal statement. The statement cannot exceed 1200 words. Your statement should include the following:

  • Achievements (including any involvement in special projects, research or papers that are part of your academic studies)
  • Family Background
  • Academic Potential
  • Your career and educational plans for the future
  • How this scholarship will help both monetarily and personally
  • Challenges that you have encountered
  • Any other information relevant to this application

  3. Click Apply for CSUDH Scholarships
  4. Log in using your CSUDH credentials
  5. Locate the CBAPP Scholarship Application
  6. Select Start Application
  7. Complete the application
  8. Copy and paste your personal statement into the application
  9. Attach your unofficial transcripts
  10. Submit

The CBAPP scholarships that are usually available each year are noted below. Students must maintain all eligibility criteria during the award year in order to be awarded scholarship funds.

•be a CSUDH student in good academic standing
•live in one of the following zip codes: 90001, 90002, 90003, 90059, 90061, 90220, 90221, or 90222
•have a declared major within CSUDH’s CBAPP
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Carson Companies Scholarship

Full payment of in-state & CSUDH mandatory registration fees

•be a current CSUDH CBAPP student
•3.5 GPA or above
•must be pursuing a bachelor of science degree in business administration
•demonstrate financial need via application statement

CBAPP Advisory Board Scholarship

$1,000

•be a current CSUDH CBAPP student
•be a senior in the award year
•possess an upper-division major GPA of 3.0 or better in courses completed at CSUDH
•be enrolled in at least 12 units during the semester for which student applies for the scholarship
demonstrate financial hardship
have a declared major with CBAPP
•be a US citizen
•be a full-time student
•must be enrolled in CSUDH courses during the academic year of the award

Chiou-Hsiung "Bear" Chang Scholarship

$5,000

•be a CSUDH student in good academic standing
•have a declared major within CSUDH’s CBAPP
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Donald Jones Endowed Memorial Scholarship

$1,000

•be a U.S. citizen
•be a Criminal Justice Administration major at CSUDH
•have expressed a strong desire to pursue a professional career in a law enforcement field
•maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA overall
•have a minimum 2.3 GPA in Criminal Justice Administration coursework
•demonstrate a need for financial assistance
•use the award to pay for tuition, books, and/or student housing
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Gil & Shirley Smith Scholarship

$900

•demonstrate a need for financial assistance
•be a continuing undergraduate CSUDH CBAPP student with at least one semester of coursework remaining
•possess a minimum 3.0 GPA, either major or overall
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Jerry Groomes Endowed Scholarship

$1,000

•be a CSUDH graduate or undergraduate student majoring in Public Administration
•be enrolled in classes at CSUDH during the semester for which he/she applies for the scholarship
•possess a minimum 3.0 GPA, either major or overall
•be in good academic standing with the university
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Krushkhov Memorial Scholarship

$500

•be an undergraduate or graduate student with a declared major in Public Administration
•possess an interest and have completed studies in urban and/or municipal issues
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Leonard Moite Memorial Scholarship

$500

•be an undergraduate junior or senior CSUDH CBAPP student with a declared concentration in Finance
•be enrolled in at last two Finance or two Economics classes during the semester for which student applies for the scholarship
•possess a minimum 3.0 GPA, either major or overall.
•plan on continuing his/her education and attaining a Master’s, Doctorate or Professional Degree.
•be in good academic standing with the university
•submit a copy of your CSUDH transcripts
•submit a personal statement describing your educational and career aspirations (500 words max)
•a letter of recommendation from a Finance faculty member

Roger W. Berry Ph.D. Endowed Scholarship

•have a declared major with CBAPP
•be a US citizen
•be a full-time student
•must be enrolled in CSUDH courses during the academic year of the award

Senator Joseph M. Kennick Scholarship

$500

 •be a Criminal Justice major at CSUDH
•be a student in good academic standing
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Thomas Burrows Scholarship

$2,500

•have a declared major within CSUDH’s CBAPP, preferably with a concentration in Management
•be a junior or senior
•possess a demonstrated record of academic achievement
•demonstrate a need for financial assistance
•use the funds for tuition and/or textbooks only
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award

Vicente Sarmiento Memorial Scholarship

$1,000

•GPA of 2.7 or higher
•demonstrated financial need
•current undergraduate student
•criminal justice students
•student who demonstrates a commitment to reforming the criminal justice system and/or demonstrates an interest in improving the conditions of confinement of the incarcerated
•must be a continuing student in the academic year of the award
