Dr. Megumi Kuwabara is an Associate Professor in the Child Development Department (College of Health, Human Services & Nursing) whose research focuses on how different experiences (e.g., culture, race/ethnicity, community, family) might create different developmental pathways for attention and language development in preschool-aged children. She typically teaches research methods, infancy/early childhood development, cognition & language development, and mentors students individually in a Directed Research/Independent study course. Dr. Kuwabara is a heavy user of the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity (NCFDD). NCFDD’s “Every Semester Needs a Plan” and “How to Align Your Time with Your Priorities” programs have been life-changing for her research productivity. On campus, she has participated in numerous workshops held at the Faculty Development Center (FDC), such as the Writing Your Journal in 12 Weeks group, the ACUE Effective Online Teaching Practices course, a Faculty Learning Community on Collaborative Learning Techniques, and the annual teaching symposium. Through her personal and workshop experiences, she has learned that planning, support, and accountability are keys for research and writing. She is ready and excited to provide support to all faculty in areas of scholarship and creative activities this year as a Faculty Fellow.
