Career History

Dr. McAplin began teaching at CSUDH in 2020 as an adjunct instructor and has been in education for over 15 years. She started as a middle school teacher in the same neighborhood where her parents raised her. Dr. McAlpin received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for her teaching. She has taught at local high schools and also at the community college level and graduate school level. In addition to teaching, Dr. McAplin has functioned as an elementary/middle school counselor, trained educators, and developed and facilitated a counseling program for middle school students. In addition to teaching, she has been in private practice as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2015. Before opening her private practice, Dr. McAlpin held several community-based mental health positions throughout Los Angeles County, including a Therapist, Up-Front Assessor, and Foster Family Agency Social Worker.
