Three-Year Program (Part-Time)

California State University Dominguez Hills’ part-time Master of Social Work (MSW) program option is designed for working professionals.

This 3-year option is offered through the University’s College of Continuing and Professional Education (CCPE) and is accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). This course of study is 60-credit hours in length with classes scheduled during fall, spring, and summer terms. Classes take place during one weeknight evening and every other Saturday, with a few exceptions. All classes are held on campus. We are not currently offering an online program option as part of our curriculum.

About the MSW 3-Year Part-Time Option Program

The curriculum, faculty, and academic advisement for the 3-year, Part-time program option is managed by the CSUDH Department of Social Work. However, CCPE manages the program, handling registration and collection of fees. Nonetheless, the same accredited degree is awarded. The 3-year course of study is a self-support degree program (not funded by state tax revenue). The tuition for the 3-year, part-time option is currently $370 per unit. However, this per unit cost may be subject to an increase for incoming part-time students, pending university approval. (If approved, the new cost could range between $385 to $400 per unit in the upcoming academic year. The final cost per unit will be communicated at New Student Orientation.)

Fieldwork Practicum

The practicum component during the second year of the three-year option consists of 488 (sixteen 16 hrs. weekly) hours in the fall and spring semesters Monday – Friday. 540 (twenty 20 hrs. weekly) hours of practicum are required during the third year of the program in the fall and spring semesters Monday-Friday. Though start and end times may vary, students completing practicum are required to fulfill duties during normal hours of business operation (e.g., 9-5pm or 9-6pm). Our program does not offer evening and/or weekend placements. Arrangements must be made in advance with places of employment to attend the program. Applicants must describe in detail how they will meet this requirement in their application.

Optional Health Services Fee for 3 year, Part-time Students

The Health Services Fee entitles Part-time MSW students to medical treatment of acute illness and injuries in the Student Health Center. It supports trained professional medical and mental health staff such as Physicians, Psychologists, Nurses, Pharmacists, Mental Health Educators, and support staff, etc. The funding also assures that all laboratory and diagnostic X-ray procedures are performed without additional cost to students. Elective services, orthopedic supplies, immunizations, optometry services and pharmacy prescriptions are available at minimal additional costs to all eligible part-time students.

Part-time MSW students have the option to enroll in this service each semester (Fall, Spring and Summer), at the time of registration for classes.
