Jessica Conte is a critical cultural studies scholar who focuses on transnational Korea. Her research interests include migration, race, gender, and labor through the lens of cinema and literature. She received her PhD in East Asian Studies from the University of California, Irvine. Her article, “Framing South Korea and Vietnam’s Past and Present in Muoi: The Legend of a Portrait” was published in Korean Screen Cultures (Peter Lang, 2015).
Other areas of teaching and research include postcolonial studies, transnational cinema and co-productions, Asian popular culture, gender and race, comparative literature, and diaspora.
