The Toro CARE program offers support for students who lose their housing or are at risk of losing housing:
• Short-term emergency housing, up to 14 days of support with weekly check-ins to implement transitional housing next steps.
• Eviction avoidance grants for students who received a 3-day notice or eviction notice.
• Deposit or first-month rent grants are available for students who are experiencing homelessness and have located housing. Documentation from the landlord of move-in costs is required.
• Pending space availability.
The short-term emergency housing assistance program offers temporary accommodation for students facing housing instability, displacement, or homelessness. This initiative ensures the safety of students and provides them with time to secure long-term housing.
This temporary accommodation is available for up to 14 days and is provided at no charge to the student. If you find yourself homeless or displaced and require short-term accommodation, please reach out to the Toro CARE team or fill out our intake form.
• Be a currently enrolled CSUDH Student in at least 3 units
• Be able to demonstrate an unexpected food, housing, or financial crisis affecting academic performance or enrollment (Supporting documentation is helpful where appropriate)
Examples of qualifying emergencies:
• Dislacement: Living in your car; Temporarily staying with friends or family; Living on the street
• Medical expense due to hospitalization or severe illness with fiancial means to pay
• Car repairs/loss of transportation to a job, school, or internship with no financial means to pay
• Unforseen emergency and/or circumstance that directly affects your academic performance or causes you to consider withdrawing from on or more courses
