RESOLVED: That the Academic Senate of CSUDH recognizes its previous acceptance of the 2024, December report from the Equitable Academic Excellence Working Group (EAE-WG) and that that is a policy-recommending document, and be it further

RESOLVED: That the Senate create a task force led by the current University Writing Committee (UWC) and including relevant campus partners to develop a policy proposal and associated procedures for implementing the recommendations regarding ePortfolios, and be it further

RESOLVED: That this resolution be forwarded to the Provost, the President, the faculty of CSUDH, and the Academic Affairs Council.

RATIONALE: The “Equitable Academic Excellence Working Group” (EAE-WG) was created and tasked with the mission to implement AB928 in the most effective manner consistent with the goals of the CSUDH Strategic Plan. Their report to the CSUDH Academic Senate is attached to this resolution. Preserving practices shown to be effective (specifically, the “first year experiences,” which will be broadened to “transitional experiences” to serve transfer students as well) was a high priority. Practices that are consistent with both a system-wide initiative and the specific nature of CSUDH among its sibling institutions (specifically, incorporation of community engaged learning within the curriculum) were also considered critical. Other modern practices which bring learning to the fore and address Academic Excellence, thus making our students more competitive after graduation (specifically, e-portfolios) also came forward as a way to serve our students best.

Another important consideration that came from the task force was avoiding necessary adding of required credit units for students (especially those in already high-unit majors). The details of their recommendations outline how, with proper committee oversight, these goals might all be accomplished without adding extra units.

This resolution addresses one of those three connected recommendations of the EAE-Working Group.

We recognize that implementation of these undertakings might add excess workload for faculty and others who need to contribute to the course development and other tasks. Any such extra work needs to be properly compensated.
