Recommendation to Amend Privileges for Emeritus Faculty

WHEREAS, the title of Emeritus is an honor bestowed upon retired faculty members in recognition of their distinguished service, dedication, and contributions to the University;

WHEREAS, emeritus faculty continue to play a vital role in the academic, cultural, and professional life of the university through mentorship, research, outreach, and institutional memory;

WHEREAS, providing expanded benefits to emeritus faculty supports the university's commitment to lifelong academic engagement and encourages continued participation in scholarly and community endeavors.

WHEREAS, comparable institutions have enhanced the status and privileges of their emeritus faculty to promote inclusivity, professional recognition, and institutional excellence;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Academic Senate of California State University Dominguez Hills (ASCSUDH), that the institution shall adopt an expanded suite of benefits for emeritus faculty members, which may include but not be limited to:

    • Allowing Non-Tenure Track faculty with a first faculty hire date of ten-or-more-years to be eligible for emeritus benefits;
    • Access to campus recreational, parking, athletic and wellness facilities, as available to all currently employed faculty (tenured, tenure-track, and non-tenure track alike);
    • Access to academic software packages and applications for one calendar year from retirement date;
  1. That the Office of Academic Affairs, in consultation with relevant departments, shall review and implement necessary administrative procedures to formalize and publicize the expanded benefits;
  2. That these benefits shall be extended to all current and future emeritus faculty members, with implementation effective as of [Insert Date or Academic Year];
  3. That the university shall periodically review emeritus policies and benefits to ensure alignment with institutional goals and the evolving needs of retired faculty.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be transmitted to the Office of the President, the Provost, and relevant administrative units for implementation and oversight.
