Cynthia Villanueva Rios completed a dual-major in Spanish & Italian at UC Davis. She earned her M.A. in Contemporary Latin-American and Golden-Age Peninsular literatures and language while at CSU, Long Beach. She is currently ABD at the University of Arizona completing a Ph.D. on Latin-American Literature and Cultural Theory, in addition to a doctoral minor in Gender and Women’s Studies.

Her scholarly interests include contemporary feminist movements, Queer theory, Indigenous theory, and analyzing religious discourse in Latin-American literature. Her research examines testimonial literature and oral testimonies produced during and after the Guatemalan civil war via a trauma-informed approach analysis, and how testimonies produced by marginalized entities are valued and recognized within the legal system.
