University Residence Hall

CSUDH Mosaic Dance Company presents an alfresco evening of site-specific dance showcasing the newly constructed Residence Hall.  Site-specific dance is defined as “a performance that has been designed to exist in a certain place outside of the theatrical stage.”  Performances will begin on the basketball court behind the Residence Hall and audience members will move from one outdoor location to another as the performance progresses.  Audience members should be prepared to stand for short periods of time and walk short distances.  The route is ADA accessible and if you require additional accommodations, please email PerformingArts@csudh.edu.  Advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility needs.

In 1929, a handsome lector arrives at one of the last Cuban cigar factories in Tampa to entertain the workers while they hand-roll cigars. But when the lector begins reading Anna Karenina, the passionate, frustrated lives of the characters in the book begin to parallel those of the listeners, leading to jealousy, betrayal, and sexual awakening.

Intimate Apparel

Lynn Nottage’s award-winning story, Intimate Apparel, takes place in 1905 and follows Esther Mills, an African American seamstress, who makes lingerie for the wealthy women uptown and the ladies of the night downtown. When the owner of Esther’s boarding house, Mrs. Dickson, gives her a letter from a mysterious man in Panama, Esther’s world begins to shift. This show is presented in conjunction with the New African Grove Black Theatre program to celebrate Black history month.
