Mission

Our mission is to prepare majors and minors who are well-grounded in the history of Western thought and who are able to think for themselves both critically and analytically.  The department offers a B.A. degree in philosophy.  We believe that the study of philosophy is an integral part of a liberal arts education.

Furthermore, we recognize the importance of cultural diversity and, through our course offerings and other instructionally related activities, address multicultural concerns.  In addition to our commitment to the majors and minors in the program, we also take seriously our contributions to general education in the form of the critical thinking course which satisfies the critical reasoning basic skills requirement as well as the two introductions to philosophy that fulfill general education requirements in the Humanities.
