MAY 2025, CARSON, CA – Anayeli Sepulveda, a College of Education (COE) student from Hawaiian Gardens, CA, is nearing graduation, completing the Multiple Subject Teaching Credential program at California State University, Dominguez Hills (CSUDH).
Poised to embark on her career in education, Sepulveda is motivated by a deep desire to inspire young students and foster a supportive learning environment. She plans to apply to careers in education, initially considering substitute teaching. Her long-term aspirations include potentially becoming a teacher, counselor, or working in administration.
Currently, Sepulveda is gaining valuable practical experience teaching at Aspire Academy, an elementary school in Los Angeles. As part of her last semester teaching credential requirements, she is now teaching an entire 3rd grade class. Her mentor teacher is Paulina Salas DH alum, who also earned her Multiple Subject Credential in Spring 2022.
Sepulveda's path to teaching was influenced early on by her experiences in Child Development 101 as a Junior at Artesia high school, where she discovered a love for working with younger students and engaging in first-hand activities. She also reflects on her own past middle and high school teachers, noting that she wants to emulate those who did not neglect students.
“My aim is to bring hope to young learners rather than fear into classrooms.”
Choosing DH was a practical and personal decision for Sepulveda.
"It’s close to home, small campus, close community,” she says. “The LBS degree and teaching credential options was a no brainer decision for me during my senior year of high school.”
Her positive experience at DH began immediately, with her favorite moment being her first introduction on campus and the first day of class, where she felt a sense of belonging from students and professors the moment they opened the classroom doors.
“That’s important to a new student and very much so important to me,” she says while taking a second to reflect on her college journey.
Throughout her studies as an Liberal Studies undergraduate, Sepulveda found significant support from COE faculty and staff. She mentioned speaking with Professor Dr. Miguel Dominguez, a previous Dual Language Professor, who was supportive in her decision to enroll in the Multiple Subject Credential. She also mentioned Liberal Studies Chair and Professor, Dr. Angela Macias as helpful throughout her journey.
With graduation just weeks away, Sepulveda is extremely excited, waiting for a long time for this moment, describing it as the culmination of the "whole process and whole journey". As a first-generation college graduate, her achievement is a source of immense pride for her family.
"My Mom and dad feel really proud,” she says. “They remind me every day of working hard towards my goal. They have supported my hard work since day one.”
Sepulveda offers advice to future students considering the field, acknowledging that the challenges of any student are always going to be there but dedicated support from mentors, professors, friends, and family will guide you all the way through graduation into your next education journey.
With the teaching preparation tools she’s learned by COE’s world class education professors, Sepulveda is eager to translate her education and experiences at CSUDH into a fulfilling career dedicated to supporting and inspiring the next generation of students.
Congratulations to Anayeli Sepulveda and all the College of Education graduates who will graduate on May 16th & 17th, 2025.
