Laptop Requirements

Requirements

The Computer Science Department recommends the following laptop computer configurations for students.  There are a minimum and recommended requirements.  While the minimum requirements will run software required for courses, the recommended configuration will give students a better experience running software.

Windows 11 is the recommended Operating System.  If Linux is the primary Operating System, then dual booting (not recommended) or running Windows in a virtual machine may be required.  VMWare Workstation (Windows, Linux) and VMWare Fusion (macOS) is provided free of charge to Computer Science students.

 Apple MacBook computers with Apple Silicon (M-Series) CPU’s are recommended to run Windows 11 for ARM Processors in a Virtual Machine using VMWare Fusion or Parallels.

 Microsoft software can be downloaded from Azure Dev Tools for Teaching at: https://azureforeducation.microsoft.com/devtools

Minimum: 8Gb

Recommended: 16Gb or greater

Minimum: 250Gb SSD

Recommended: 500Gb - 1Tb SSD
