Audition Requirement for Theatre Majors

We are taking COVID precautions very seriously and for this reason, this semester all Theatre students will be submitting Self-Tape Auditions (DUE Sept. 2). Your self-tape needs to include:
  • Your taped audition via Flipgrid
  • Slate: State your name and what piece you have prepared
  • Your 1-minute audition piece
  • A closing statement so we know your audition is concluded
  • A filled out StickyNote (Flipgrid feature) that includes
  • Name and contact info
  • Show you are hoping to be cast in
  • If you are available and willing to attend callbacks, rehearsals, performances
  • Upload your headshot and resume to your Flipgrid tape

Information on How to Use Flip Grid

How to Submit a Flipgrid tape:

Before taping, be prepared with your slate information, your audition piece, and your closing statement or “button” to end your audition.

If this is your first time using Flipgrid, no worries! It's pretty simple. You can use your computer, tablet, or smart phone. All you'll need is a camera and microphone (those included with your computer or phone are fine!). If you'd like, you can review this brief introduction to Flipgrid, or, just go for it!

  1. Go to Flipgrid
  2. The Audition Tape will be the only Grid available to you
  3. There will be a sample Audition Tape there for your viewing.
  4. Use the big green plus button to record your Audition. You will have 5 minutes to record your Audition.
  5. Use the Sticky Note feature on the upper right-hand side of your video to type in: name, contact info, show you’re auditioning for and a “Yes/No” on if you are available and willing to participate in a production.
  6. Before clicking “submit,” you may upload your headshot and resume.

Audition Information for A Surge of Power

Directed by Shaunté Caraballo
Performance Dates: February 25, 26, 27
Audition Call Back Dates: September 15, 16

A Surge of Power introduces us to a group of strangers who meet while at a Black Lives Matter protest. We discover who they are, where they are from, what brought them here, and what they hope for the future. It is a new, devised theatrical work that is developed and created by the cast and director. It brings together actors, writers, singers, and poets to create an original piece of theatre.

The cast will be 3-6 performers of different ethnicities. This piece will be performed in its entirety in the spring of 2021. However, there will be individual performances of the work throughout the fall and spring semesters.
