Fall 2020 On-Campus Housing UPDATE, 8/13/2020:

Housing is opening in a limited capacity this fall and we currently have no spaces available. Any 2020-21 applicant not offered a space this fall may request to put their application on hold until Spring 2021 by sending an email to housing@csudh.edu.  In the meantime, we will provide updates as we know more about Spring 2021 occupancy. Please continue to check our webpage and your Toro email account for the latest information.

  • March 18 - May 1, 2020 for RETURNING/CONTINUING CSUDH students.
  • March 18 - June 1, 2020 for NEW CSUDH students.

Wednesday, August 19 & Thursday, August 20, 2020 for all students, by appointment only.

Applications received after the above-noted priority application dates will be waitlisted and considered for Spring 2021 housing at the earliest.

Spring 2021 dates and deadlines are TBD. 


Housing Application Checklist

Step 1: Make Sure You’re Eligible

To be eligible for University Housing, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be an admitted or current CSUDH undergraduate or graduate student for the term you are applying for.
  • Have filed your Intent to Enroll (if you're a new student) for the term for which you've been admitted. Log into My.csudh.edu and go to: Application Status, Accept/Decline and then select I Accept Admission or I Decline Admission.
  • Make sure your Toromail account is activated. If you have any issues setting up your Toromail, please contact the Campus IT Help Desk at (310) 243-2500. 
  • Once you have confirmed your Intent to Enroll and activated your Toromail, allow 1-2 days for University records to be updated before attempting to submit a Housing application.
  • Be enrolled or plan to be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units (6 units for graduate students) for the term you're applying for.

Please note that CSUDH does not currently provide accommodations for students seeking to live on campus with family. If you are in need of local family housing, listings of private off-campus rentals may be found online at https://csudhuniversityhousing.rentcollegepads.com/.

Step 2: Apply Online

Apply online here. Be sure to:

  • Apply as early as possible, since space is limited and spots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Apply before the priority application deadline (see deadlines above). Please note that applying by the deadline does NOT guarantee you a space or a specific type of space, but it will increase your chances of being offered a space.

If we're unable to offer you a space, you will be added to a waitlist and considered on a space-available basis. Please be aware that first-year and transfer students who live 20 miles or more from campus get priority on the waitlist.

Step 3: Submit Your $30 Application Fee Within 5 Business Days

After you submit an application, you will be asked to pay a $30 Housing Application Fee. This is a non-refundable fee, which MUST be paid or your application will not be processed.

You may pay online at My.csudh.edu using Toropay, or by mailing a check or money order (made payable to CSUDH Housing) to:

If paying by check or money order, please ensure the student's name and Student ID number are noted on the check or money order. You may also pay in person at the Cashier's Office on campus, but please keep their business hours in mind if you do. (Note: The Cashier's only accepts cash, checks, cashier checks or money orders. Credit card or debit card payments can only be made online.) 

Please allow 1-2 business days for the $30 charge to appear on your student account. Housing will contact you via email to confirm that your application has been received and to request payment. From that point, you'll have 5 business days to make your payment. Failure to pay the fee within 5 business days will result in the cancellation of your application.

BOTH your application AND the $30 Fee MUST be received by the priority deadline in order to make the priority cut-off date. Submitting an application by the deadline, but paying the $30 Fee AFTER the deadline may result in your being placed on the waitlist.

Step 4: Submit a $300 Security Deposit to Reserve Your Space

Students who are offered a space will be asked to submit a $300 Security Deposit* to reserve a spot in Housing. New applicants should expect to receive this request shortly after the priority application deadline (see dates above).

* NOTE: Current Housing residents will NOT have to pay another Security Deposit.

You will also be asked to select a Payment Plan for your Room Fees during this step of the application process. A mandatory, one-time installment fee is charged if you pay in more than one (1) installment for the Academic Year: $25 for two (2) installments, $50 for six (6) installments. New Spring applicants are charged $25 if they pay in three (3) installments. This fee is non-refundable.

When requested, you may pay your deposit online at My.csudh.edu using Toropay, or by mailing a check or money order (payable to CSUDH Housing) to:

  • Please wait until University Housing contacts and offers you a space before attempting to pay the Security Deposit.
  • The Security Deposit MUST be received by the deadline in order to reserve your space in University Housing. Please refer to the table at the top of the page for all payment due dates.
  • The Security Deposit CANNOT be deferred to Financial Aid.
  • Failure to pay the Security Deposit by the specified deadline will result in the cancellation of your application.
Step 5: Submit Your Room Payment to Confirm Your Space

Students who submit a $300 Security Deposit and select a Payment Plan will next be asked to make a Room Fee payment to confirm their space. The amount due will depend on the Room Type you are offered and on the Payment Plan you selected. 

  • The Room Payment MUST be received by the deadline in order to reserve your space in University Housing. Please refer to the table at the top of the page for all payment due dates.
  • Financial Aid recipients will have the option of deferring their Room Payment.
  • Failure to pay or defer your Room Payment by the specified deadline will result in the cancellation of your application.

When requested, you may pay your Room Payment online at My.csudh.edu using Toropay, or by mailing a check or money order (payable to CSUDH Housing) to:

* If you choose to defer your Room Payment to Financial Aid, you'll be asked to complete and submit a Deferment of Housing Payment Agreement instead of making a payment. The Deferment Agreement authorizes Housing to automatically deduct your applicable room rate from any financial aid you expect to receive (grants, scholarships, stipends and/or loans).  

Once you pay or defer your Room Payment, you will have a CONFIRMED space in Housing and you will have completed all steps of the application process.

Step 6: Enroll by August 10, 2020 for the Fall 2020 term and January 12, 2021 for Spring 2021 term.

ALL 2020-21 applicants with a CONFIRMED Housing space must be enrolled in the required number of units (12 for undergraduate students, 6 for graduate students) by the above-noted dates, or risk losing their space in Housing.
