CSUDH's Reappointment, Tenure, and Promotion (RTP) policies delineate the professional standards probationary and tenured faculty are expected to achieve and the evaluation processes that the University follows.

As stated in the Faculty Handbook, “the caliber of a University faculty [member] is the single most important index of the overall quality of the institution.” To that end, “policies and procedures affecting the initial selection of faculty, as well as reappointment, tenure, and promotion, inevitably exert a central and long-lasting influence.” Furthermore, “only if concern for excellence is emphasized in each phase of faculty selection and evaluation can there be any reasonable expectation of achieving and maintaining a general regard for excellence throughout the institution.”
