FAQ

The following are answers to the most frequently asked questions about Perceived Teaching Effectiveness.

Who has access to the PTE results?

The summarized results of closed-ended items and the complete verbatim responses to open-ended questions shall be given to the instructor, the department chair (tenured faculty unit employee), college deans, peer reviewers (tenured faculty unit employees), as well as, appropriate personnel when required by official University business.

Does the department chair approve the PTE Selection form?

The full-time faculty and Department Chair will both acknowledge that they have consulted on the course selections as per Article 15.15 of the CSU/CFA collective bargaining agreement, by checking a box on the form. Department chairs will no longer approve course selections through the system.

When are the PTE results available?

The evaluation results are available after grades have been submitted at the end of each semester. The PTE Results Report will show how your students responded to the multiple-choice questions. The reports will also include the student feedback from the open-ended comments.

Can I print my PTE reports?

Faculty may print their PTE reports for courses they taught only. We recommend faculty keep a copy of their reports for their own records for inclusion in the RTP evaluation cycle. When ready to view and print, you will need to disable the pop-up blocker.

If I leave the university, am I able to still access my PTE reports?

If a person leaves the university, their credentials are revoked for all CSUDH services including the PTE portal. We recommend faculty keep a copy of their reports for their own records.

One of our user roles changed. Who does this affect?

If a change occurs with a reviewer (dean, associate dean, department chair, department reviewer), please send an email to rmartinez@csudh.edu. We will update the permissions for users within the PTE portal.

Can I provide extra credit to students for completing the student evaluation?

The Office of Faculty Affairs and Development strongly recommends not offering extra credit to students for participating in the PTE process. Pursuant to Article 15.17.a. of the CSU/CFA Collective Bargaining Agreement, student evaluations shall be anonymous and only identified by course and/or section at all times. For that reason providing incentives may risk the anonymous status of the students providing feedback.

Is the instructor required to leave the classroom during the student evaluation period?

It is recommended that when setting aside time in class for students to complete the online PTE survey, instructors should leave the room to help ensure that students feel free to provide authentic responses.
